All areas of my life, physical, mental, emotional, are drastically improved. Sobriety means being present in my life and the lives of those that I love and care about. It means a relationship with my higher power that has become the most important relationship that I have.

I know now that it was the light inside of them – the sunlight of the spirit – that spoke to me. One of addiction’s stereotypes is that it only affects those with dysfunctional families or a history of abuse. But when we spoke with Jules, we learned her story defied those ideas conclusively. Like too many people, substance use disorder had taken over Gina’s life – that is, until one day when she found the inner strength to ask for help. In the summer of 2014, my boyfriend gave me an ultimatum; either I stop drinking or he would take my son and I could leave. I woke up on August 10, 2014, and went to a treatment center for an intake appointment.

But after my implant my life has changed. Within 3 months I was promoted from boilermaker to technical manager and have my own house. I have my family back and I have my life back. Quitting drinking and using was one thing. Looking back, this is the first proof that I’d really changed. Unlike countless times before when I had gritted my teeth, determined to solve all of my problems myself, this time I asked for help.
